Reference 144. -- Lactation initiation code definitions:

0	=	Lactation started with a normal calving
1	=	Lactation started with an abortion (including induced abortions)
2	=	Fresh date field does not contain actual calving date (e.g. date entered herd, or date of hormonal induction of lactation)
8	=	Birth date is stored in calving date column to store events before first calving. The lactation number is set to 0.
9	=	No lactation information has been received for this cow/calving date/herd code combination

Please note: Records coded with a '1' or '2' will not be used for genetic evaluations. Codes '8' and '9' are for AIPL internal use only and only to store data and for web display purposes.
